Char-Broil is the leader in infrared grills.  Although they make different types of infrared grills, their most popular series is the Quantum.  These grills are designed for heavy duty home use.

You’ve probably already discovered that there seems to be an endless amount of different model numbers for what seems to be the same grill with only cosmetic differences.

In reality, Char-Broil slightly modifies their grills for specific retailers so that each retailer appears to have unique models.  From a marketing standpoint, not a bad strategy.

But as an educated consumer, knowing this allows you to make a better decision.  In my research I found that Amazon has all the features that other retailers have and some features they don’t.

Is this the right grill for you?

The Magnum Quantum is Char-Broil’s top of the line infrared grill.  Its designed for the frequent and skilled home griller.  With this grill you’ll be able to enjoy a simple meal with your family or cook for a few dozen people at your next outdoor party.

Specifically the Magnum 500 is a 3 burner infrared grill with a side burner.  By cooking using infrared burners, you’ll be able to sear the flavor in your steaks or use the low setting to roast other meats.  Both will come out tender.

For those who feel you need a 4,5 or 6 burner grill to generate the heat you need, remember infrared generates much higher heat and a 3 burner infrared grill generates as much, if not more heat that a six burner traditional gas grill.

The grill area is big enough to feed probably as many people as you can fit in your house for a party.

It does have an above warming rack.  This is really useful to warm bread, by the way.

Although this model does not come with a rotisserie, many aftermarket brands will fit.

If you like to use wood chips when you cook, you’ll find that the higher heat causes more smoke.  More smoke means more flavor.

Will you use the sideburner?

I don’t think I could do without a sideburner.  I make a lot of sauces or melt butter with mine.  I think its one of those things that you didn’t know you needed until you start using it.

Is clean up easy?

In reality, the infrared will do most of the work for you.  It heats up high enough to burn off anything that sticks to the grates.  It works kind of like the cleaning cycle on you inside oven.

To clean, simply heat to grill for a few minutes and anything that was left will turn to ash.  A few swipes with the grill brush and you’re done.  Periodically, just empty the bottom of the grill and you’ll have a perfectly clean grill.

Concerns

Infrared grills can take a little time to get used to.  Realize there is a slight learning curve.  As long as you are aware of this and are prepared to practice a bit, you’ll be fine with this grill.  It probably won’t even be an issue.

Regarding assembly, its no fun putting anything together.  This grill is no exception. But to spend a little time once for assembly to save a good bit of money that comes with online purchases is worth it, I think.

Conclusion

I really like this grill.  If you’re serious about grilling and enjoy entertaining, this grill will be good fit for you.  Just remember to be humble when your quests start giving you compliments that this is the best steak they have ever had!
